Testmo notifies you when work is assigned to you or when a teammate mentions you in a comment or note. Notifications appear in-app immediately and can optionally trigger an email, so you stay informed whether you are actively working in Testmo or not. Each notification links directly to the item it refers to, and clicking it takes you straight to the relevant run, session, or comment without having to search.
Notification types
Testmo generates two categories of notifications:
Assignment notifications are created when tests or sessions are assigned to you. This includes:
- A test run being assigned to you
- One or more tests within a run being assigned to you
- An exploratory session being assigned to you
Assignment notifications are not generated when you assign work to yourself.
Mention notifications are created when a teammate tags you with @ in any rich text field, for example in a test case comment, run note, session log, milestone note, or document. For a full walkthrough of how mentions work, see User Tagging in Testmo.
Notification tray
The bell icon in the menu bar shows a badge with your total count of unread notifications. The badge disappears when there are no unread items.
Clicking the bell opens the notification tray, which shows your most recent unread notifications. Each entry displays a summary of the notification; hover over any item to see the complete text in a tooltip. Click a notification to navigate directly to the relevant item; doing so also marks it as read.
Entries are grouped by Today and Older when you have notifications from more than one day. To focus on mentions only, enable the Show mentions only toggle at the top of the tray. This filters the tray to display only mention notifications while the toggle is on. The toggle state persists across page refreshes within a session but resets to off when you start a new session.
Click View all notifications at the bottom of the tray to open the full notifications view in your profile.
Profile notifications
For a complete history of your notifications, go to My Profile → Notifications. The view is organised into three tabs:
- All: shows all assignment and mention notifications together. This is the default tab.
- Assigned: shows only notifications where you were assigned to a test, run, or session.
- Mentions: shows only notifications where someone mentioned you.
Enable the Show unread only toggle within any tab to hide notifications you have already read. The toggle is off by default and resets to off in new sessions.
Actions on individual notifications
Each notification row includes controls to:
- Mark as read: marks an unread notification as read. The unread badge in the menu bar updates immediately.
- Mark as unread: marks a read notification as unread, returning it to your attention.
- Delete: removes the notification permanently.
Click a notification to navigate to the item it refers to.
Bulk actions
When you have notifications in your list, two bulk actions appear above the table:
- Mark all read: marks every notification as read at once.
- Delete all: permanently removes all notifications.
Email notifications
In addition to appearing in-app, notifications can be sent to your email address. Testmo handles email delivery separately for assignment notifications and mention notifications, so you can configure different preferences for each.
Three delivery options are available for each type:
- In-app only: notifications appear in the tray and profile view only. No email is sent.
- In-app + daily email: notifications appear in-app, and once per day Testmo sends a digest email summarising all unread notifications of that type. This is useful if you prefer a single daily summary rather than individual emails throughout the day.
- In-app + immediate email: notifications appear in-app and an email is sent as soon as each notification is created. Use this when you need to react to assignments or mentions promptly, especially if you are not logged into Testmo continuously.
Email notifications are only sent if your Testmo administrator has enabled email notifications at the instance level.
Notification preferences
To configure your personal notification preferences, go to My Profile → Settings and find the Notifications section.
Two settings are available:
- System notifications: controls delivery for assignment notifications (run assigned, tests assigned, session assigned).
- Mention notifications: controls delivery for notifications generated when you are mentioned with @.
Each setting has its own dropdown with the delivery options described above, plus a Global default option that inherits whatever your administrator has configured as the instance-wide default. Your personal preference, if set, always takes priority over the global default.
If you are uncertain which setting is right for you, In-app + daily email is a practical starting point: you get a single daily summary that keeps you informed without generating per-event email traffic.
